Wanda L. Jones-Shilhanek of Hermiston died on Oct. 27, 2016 in Hermiston at the age of 93.
She was born on July 6, 1923 in Geyserville, Calif., to William Kern Creason and Lyda Lucille Hagebusch Creason. She was raised and graduated from high school in Aumsville in the class of 1941. Wanda was united in marriage to Merle Jones on August 10, 1941 in Vancouver, Wash. They lived in Ausmville, St. Helens, and Dallas before moving to Oakridge in 1948. Wanda worked at West Oak Federal Credit Union in Oakridge until 1968 when they moved to Springfield and she went to work for Lane Teachers Credit Union in Eugene. They moved to the Hermiston area in 1976 and Wanda was the founder and bookkeeper for several years at Lamb Weston Federal Union, which is now Hermiston Greater Federal Credit Union. She enjoyed sewing and was an excellent seamstress, reading, flowers, gardening, and loved family gatherings.
She is survived by her sons: Skip Jones & his wife Kristie, Hermiston, OR, Steven Jones & his wife Mary Ann, Joliet, IL; daughter: Sandy Halter, Culver, OR; brother: Ted Creason, Crooked River, OR; sister: Martha Hunking, Christmas Valley, OR; 7 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; numerous nieces, and nephews.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, husband Merle Jones; son-in-law: Jerry Halter; brothers: Bob & Bryce; sisters: Billie & Mary Lou; grandson: Tony; great grandchildren: Blake, Josie, Adam, & Abbie.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Thursday, Nov. 3, 2016 at 1 p.m. at Belle Passi Cemetery, Woodburn, Oregon.
Those who wish may make contributions in Wanda’s memory to Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Alzheimer Research.
