Melon Fest returns to downtown Hermiston on Saturday, August 20, with a day full of kids’ activities, vendors, live music, a costume contest, bathtub races, and of course, free slices of Hermiston watermelon.
The outdoor event is 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Festival Street and Main Street, with prizes valued up to $300 awarded for the Watermelon Costume Contest and Bathtub Races.
The Bathtub Races start at noon, with teams of three competing — two to push, one to steer. Tubs are provided, but team uniforms and slogans are encouraged. Registration is open on the Parks and Recreation website under “Special Events” or at https://bit.ly/BathTubRace2022.
The Watermelon Costume Contest sponsored by Christiansen Realty Group is at 10 a.m. and is open to all ages. Prizes for first, second, and third will be awarded.
