Band Concert – The Hermiston High band program showed off their skills in a concert on Tuesday night, exhibiting the Wind Ensemble and the Concert Band. The whole event lasted under an hour, and Paul Dunsmoor encouraged parents to come back to the HHS Fine Arts Center the following Wednesday morning at 8 a.m., when the Wind Ensemble would be performing again as a competition.
College Application Week – This event is centered more around seniors. College bound Coordinator Liz Marvin explains College Application Week best: “It gives students a time to fill out college applications. In the fall we focus on four year, in the spring we focus on two year and community colleges. We also help students with scholarship applications, their FAFSA, those next steps for life that they just aren’t quite sure how to do or even if they think they have it in the bag, we’re happy to help them just to reaffirm that they do.” At the end of the week, on Thursday, there were drawings for prizes, one of which being a scholarship for $200.
Conferences – Student-led conferences took place on the evenings of Monday and Wednesday at the high school. Parents were encouraged to show up and learn more about what their child does during the day, speak to teachers, overview grades, and simply walk around the building.
Graduation Deadlines – March 17th marked the last day senior students could turn in applications for a Business Program of study as well as the deadline for anything regarding the Career Related Learning Experiences that are required for graduation. The week was full of similar deadlines for seniors who wish to walk on June 4th.
Parking Changes – The construction on the parking lot started on Wednesday, March 16th. According to administration, the new “buildings” for the school will be ready by the time students return to school after spring break. They will not be put into use until the next academic year, starting this August. Because of the fact that these “buildings” will be taking up already limited parking space, there are new regulations being put into place for safety.
