Hermiston High School are joining more than 100 high schools and community-based organizations around the state in hosting Oregon College Application Week events this week.
The goal of the week is to assist all seniors as they apply to some type of postsecondary educational option, including certificate programs, two-year degree programs, and four-year degree programs.
During College Application Week, students at Hermiston High School will participate in a variety of college awareness activities, including on-site admissions, with Eastern Oregon University, on Wednesday, Nov. 9, and Western Oregon University on Thursday, Nov. 10. Students must pre-register with their senior counselor to participate in on-site admissions. Pacific University and Career and Counseling Center staff will conduct common application workshops on Wednesday and Thursday and students will have the opportunity to talk to college reps from Blue Mountain Community College, the University of Oregon and the Oregon Institute for Technology during this week. With the help of school and community volunteers, they will complete applications, as well as apply for the Oregon Promise with the goal of 80 percent of the senior class submitting applications or updating the FAFSA by the end of the week.
Conferences were held Monday and will also be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bulldog Career Discovery Fair will be held in conjunction with conferences on Wednesday, HHS will host over 40 colleges and businesses. The career fair is a forum where students and parents can visit with industry leaders to create future plans. Colleges will be on hand to talk to students of all grade levels about high school planning that is important while planning for one’s future. Student’s may earn a CRLE #2 by attending this event.
Oregon College Application Week is a statewide initiative coordinated by Oregon GEAR UP, in collaboration with a steering committee representing the K-12 community, community based organizations, and all sectors of Oregon’s higher education system.
