The Department of Environmental Quality has tasked the Lower Umatilla Groundwater Management Area Committee with updating its action plan due to high nitrate levels in the groundwater.
The committee will be required to develop voluntary practices to reduce the nitrate levels, according to Janet Greenup, manager of the Morrow Soil and Water Conservation District. The committee will hold a public meeting at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 10 at the Hermiston Ag Research Experiment Center conference room. Individual committees will be asked to submit their draft action plan section.
