Oregon is 10th most expensive in the country in terms of gas prices after two weeks at eighth.

Retail gas prices across the country have gone up for 28 of the past 30 days, with additional price increases likely on the horizon, according to AAA Oregon/Idaho.

“For the week, the national average rises four cents to $2.28 a gallon, while Oregon’s average climbs two cents to $2.43,” said AAA Oregon/Idaho Public Affairs Manager Matthew Conde. “To begin the week, Oregon is among the 30 states and the District of Columbia that are paying more for fuel.”

U.S. drivers have saved more than $27 billion at the pump this year compared to last.

“There’s more good news – gasoline demand usually drops dramatically in January following the holiday travel season, by an average of 15 million gallons of fuel per day over the past five years,” Conde said. Experts project this year’s January demand to dip even more.

Five West Coast states remain in the top 10 for highest gas prices across the country. Drivers in Hawaii will pay the most at the pump this week, followed by California, Alaska, Washington, and the District of Columbia. Oregon is ranked eighth in the country for the third week in a row.

Drivers are paying more to fill up compared to one year ago. The national average is currently 29 cents per gallon more than a year ago, and Oregon drivers are paying 9 cents more than a year ago. On a more positive note, motorists are still likely to pay the second-cheapest New Year’s gas prices in the past decade.
