Construction activities will continue this week and through the spring and early summer months in Hermiston on U.S. 395 for the Oregon Department of Transportation’s $3.7 million highway improvement project.
Motorists and pedestrians can expect lane closures and minor detours around ADA sidewalk ramps. Most of the work will be performed at nighttime to minimize impacts to traffic and local businesses along the route. Below is anticipated work and impacts for this week.
Traffic impacts for week of Feb. 22
Highway 395-Jennie: 6 a.m. to dark – Continuing signal work all week, excavate and construct footings for new traffic signals, trenching for wiring on Monday and Tuesday. There will be large equipment and several workers. There may be minor delays to traffic on Highway 395 and Jennie. Accommodations for pedestrians will be made.
Highway 395-Fourth to Theatre Lane: 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. – Starting tonight (Feb. 22), sidewalk ramp removal and reconstruction at several locations. Short single lane closures on US 395 may be in place to pour new concrete. Accommodations for pedestrians will be made.
The construction project includes rebuilding dozens of ADA sidewalk ramps, updating traffic signal controls at several intersections, installing new traffic signals at the Jennie Avenue intersection, installing median curbs to control turning movements at the Elm Street (OR 207) intersection, and repaving the six-mile-long section of highway between S.E. Fourth Street (mile post 6) and U.S. 730 (mile post zero). Paving work is not expected to begin until the May timeframe. All work is scheduled to be completed by July 4.
