The Betty Feves Memorial Gallery will feature the work of Barbara Martin, a painter from Hillsboro, in its first exhibit of the 2019-20 season.

The community is invited to attend the opening reception for “Between the Lines” on Thursday, Sept. 26, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the Gallery, located at Blue Mountain Community College.

The event is free, family-friendly, and includes light refreshments. An Artist Talk with Martin will take place at about 5 p.m.

“Between the Lines” features recent paintings by Martin, completed during an artist residency at Brush Creek Ranch Foundation for the Arts in Wyoming. The exhibit gives the viewer a glimpse of an artist’s creative process. The pieces on display show the progression Martin’s study and exploration of gestural painting, from developing a catalog of gestural marks, to creating one or more marks as individual paintings, and ultimately to producing a series of complete paintings that incorporate gestural mark making.

The artist grew up on three continents, has lived in 12 states, and moved to Hillsboro about six years ago. More information about Martin can be found on her website.

“Between the Lines” runs at the Feves Gallery from Sept. 26 through Oct. 24. The Feves Gallery welcomes tours from schools, clubs and other organizations during exhibits. Those interested should contact Feves Gallery Director Lori Sams, lsams@bluecc.edu or 541-278-5952.

The Feves Gallery is open Monday-Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and by appointment by calling 541-278-5952. The Feves Gallery is located in Pioneer Hall of the Pendleton campus of BMCC.
