For the third year, Olney Cemetery will come alive for a weekend in the third annual “Quiet Neighbors” event.

On Oct. 5-7, costumed performers will take on the role of various historic figured buried at Olney Cemetery. Visitors will follow a tour guide along a path through the cemetery to meet the different performers.

“Our annual tour of the Olney Cemetery, the largest cemetery in Pendleton, is quickly approaching,” organizer Heather Culley said. “No registration required this year, but you sure be sure to clear your schedule for the only tour in Pendleton that brings the voices of yesteryear back to life for one final story.”

Culley said the tour highlights figures from Pendleton’s interesting past in a respectful way.

The tour will run from 4-8 p.m. on each Thursday, Oct. 5, Friday, Oct. 6, and Saturday, Oct. 7. Tours will begin every 30 minutes and last about 45 minutes. Quiet Neighbors is free, and no pre-registration is required. Those attending the event should be prepared to walk about a mile total. There are no restroom facilities on site.

New this year, the event will feature free warm cider as well as the option to purchase 3rd Generation BBQ on Thursday and Friday. The Pendleton Mobile Library will also be on site with books available for checkout.

Quiet Neighbors is a joint venture between Pendleton Public Library, Olney Cemetery, and the Umatilla County Historical Society. Find more information on the Facebook event page.
