Hermiston High School girls basketball coach Steve Hoffert was named Coach of the Year and Heidi Walchli was named to the second team of the state’s 5A girls basketball all-state team on Monday.
The voting was conducted by Oregon high school basketball coaches.
The Bulldogs finished third in the 5A state basketball tournament earlier this month and finished the season with an 18-9 record. The third-place finish was the team’s highest-ever placing in the state tournament. Walchli averaged just under 11 points per game during the season and 6.3 rebounds per game. The Hermiston senior is expected to sign with Lane Community College next month.
Hoffert, named Hermiston’s head coach in 2009, led his Bulldogs to an 8-1 conference record.
