The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office is now the owner of a utility task vehicle (UTV) thanks a nearly $49,000 grant.

The vehicle is a Polaris Ranger Crew XP 1000 EPS, known as a Side by Side. The vehicle and associated equipment were delivered on Monday. The UCSO paid for the vehicle with a Homeland Security Grant totaling $48,838.

According to the sheriff’s office, the vehicle is designed for use in incidents such as mass casualty, search and rescue, as well as law enforcement and fire needs. The UTV is an off-road vehicle and has snow tracks for winter. It has room for six passengers, as well as a seat in the back for a patient care provider and a space to transport individuals who are immobile.

The Homeland Security Grant Program funds a range of preparedness activities, including planning, organization, equipment purchases, training, exercises, and management and administration across all core capabilities and mission areas.
