HPD Releases First-Quarter Crime Statistics

Incidents of crime in Hermiston through the first three months of the year are about on par with the crime rate during the same time period a year ago, according to statistics released by the Hermiston Police Department.

Total incidents through the first quarter of 2015 are down about 1 percent from a year ago. Robbery and burglary incidents are both down from 2014. There were three robberies reported a year ago – none so far in 2015. Burglaries are down from 16 to nine, while larceny reports dropped from 103 in 2014 to 100 this year.

There have been one rape reported and one homicide in 2015 compared to none a year ago. Auto thefts are up significantly from a year ago – 12 this year compared to just two during the first quarter of 2014.

Compared to the average over the past 10 years, however, most crime categories are down from their historical averages. Through the first three months of this year, robberies are down 100 percent from the 10-year average, aggravated assaults are down 83 percent, burglaries are down 72 percent, and auto thefts are down 8 percent.
