Day and nighttime construction activities continue in Hermiston along U.S. 395 for the Oregon Department of Transportation’s $3.7 million highway improvement project.
Motorists and pedestrians can expect lane closures and minor detours around ADA sidewalk ramps. Most of the work will be performed at nighttime to minimize impacts to traffic and local businesses along the route.
Traffic impacts for the week of March 28 are as follows:
Dayshift
Contractors will work Monday and Tuesday pulling wiring at Jennie Ave. from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. No lane closures or restrictions are expected.
Night Shift
Tuesday: McDonald’s franchise contractor will be working at Elm Avenue on Tuesday night tying in to existing waterline. The traffic signal will be shut down at 7 p.m. with flaggers directing traffic through the intersection. This work is expected to be completed, with signals operational prior to morning traffic.
Thursday–Friday: Electrical contractors will switch to night shift. The new signal poles will be set during the night. Traffic will be reduced to one lane each direction on Highway 395 at Jennie Avenue to perform the work. Jennie Avenue access will be impacted at times.
ADA ramp work at Jennie Avenue will be on hold for about three weeks. Crews will return in April to finish the ADA ramps at Jennie Avenue. The majority of other ADA ramp upgrades are now complete.
The construction project includes rebuilding dozens of ADA sidewalk ramps, updating traffic signal controls at several intersections, installing new traffic signals at the Jennie Avenue intersection, installing median curbs to control turning movements at the Elm Street (OR 207) intersection, and repaving the six-mile-long section of highway between S.E. Fourth Street (mile post 6) and U.S. 730 (mile post zero). Paving work is not expected to begin until the May time frame. All work is scheduled to be completed by July 4.
