Ida May Serface passed away near Hermiston on Oct. 8, 2018 at the age of 86.

She was born on Jan. 1, 1932 in Cooperstown, N.D. to Maynard and Clara Stevens Sansburn.

Ida moved with her family to Colville, Wash. for a short time before settling east of Portland. She attended Corbett Grade School and graduated from Lincoln High School in the class of 1951. She married Thomas H. Serface Jr. in Stevenson, Wash. on Feb. 16, 1952. The couple lived in Milwaukie, Bonneville Dam, east Lane County on the McKenzie River and Sweet Home before settling in Hermiston in 1974.

Ida and Thomas were round dance instructors and also enjoyed square dancing. She served as a Brownie leader and volunteered for the SMART reading program at local schools for many years. She was a member of the Columbia Grange #867. She also enjoyed gardening, traveling and needlework, was an excellent seamstress, cook and baker, and loved her cats and dogs.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Thomas; daughters, Diane (BJ Whelan) Serface and Paula (Mike) McKay; son, Dan Serface; one granddaughter, Morgan (Bryan) Wadlow; great grandchildren, Royce Wadlow and Margaret Wadlow; and sisters, Leila Kersten and Lorraine Hall.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Laurence; and sister, Clarella Meldorf.

A memorial service will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018 in the Burns Mortuary Chapel, 685 W. Hermiston Ave.

Following the memorial service, a luncheon will be served for family and friends at the Columbia Grange, 32339 Diagonal Road, Hermiston.

Family suggests memorial donations to either Vange John Memorial Hospice or to Humane Society of Eastern Oregon Pet Rescue.
