Inland NW Orchestra to Play at HHS on Sunday

Inland Northwest Orchestra under the direction of R. Lee Friese will perform at the Hermiston High School auditorium at 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 30.

The program will feature winners of the Young Artist Competition that was held last month,

Seventh grader Sofia Marina of Richland, WA won the junior division and will playing “Concerto No. 2 in g minor” by Camille Saint-Saens on piano, and Hanna Schafer of College Place, WA won the senior division and will be playing “Concerto in e minor” by Felix Mendelssohn on violin.

The program will also include “Pines of Rome” by Ottorino Respighi. This piece will include a “Buccine” of six brass players from the Hermiston High School.

Pines of Rome is a symphonic poem written by the Italian composer Ottorino Respighi in 1924. It is the second orchestral work in his “Roman trilogy”, preceded by Fountains of Rome and followed by Roman Festivals. Each of the four movements depicts pine trees in different locations in Rome at different times of the day. The premiere took place at the Augusteo, Rome under the direction of Bernardino Molinari on Dec. 14, 1924.

The concert is free, but donations will be accepted at the door. A reception will follow the performance.
