Good Shepherd Health Care System (GSHCS) has announced the addition of Internist and Geriatrician Guy Fogg, MD, to the Good Shepherd Medical Group (GSMG).
What brought Fogg to Eastern Oregon was his desire to practice in a rural community.
“It really was location and circumstance that led me here,” he said. “This area is very appealing as I like to spend most of my time outdoors and away from the traffic. I grew up in the prairies of Canada, and spent my holidays in Spain where my mother is from. There were mountains and forests in Northern Spain that I spent my childhood exploring. Coming from Kansas more recently (where I spent a large part of my training), I realized I needed mountains in my life again.”
The scope of his care includes the diagnoses and treatment of conditions such as heart disease, kidney disease, diabetes, respiratory illness, and hypertension, while also providing focus areas such as wellness care, preventative medicine, complex care coordination, treatment of mental health issues, dementia, chronic pain and multimorbidity.
With his Geriatric specialty, Fogg provides a creative approach to treatment, including end-of-life care, nursing home visits as well as skilled nursing and rehabilitation.
“It’s important to be able to care for our population of older adults,” he said. “We want to get our 40-50 year old patients to the age of 80, and the whole principal of Geriatrics is to look through a different lens; putting yourself in the patient’s shoes, assessing the risks of their medications, and developing a good overall balance, depending on their needs. Sometimes their goal will be to minimize their risk of stroke or heart attack, other times their goal will be to discontinue medicines to suffer less side effects. What balance we can strike to work towards these goals involves education and informed discussion.”
His goal at GSHCS is patient-centered care.
“I hope to help this community to live their best lives,” he said. “I want my patients to be as healthy as they can be and to have a clear understanding of what is going on with them, what their plan of care is, what risks they may face, and ultimately, help them to heal, cope and overcome.”
Fogg obtained his Doctor of Medicine from Saba University School of Medicine in Saba, Dutch Caribbean. His Internal Medicine Residency was completed at University of Missouri Kansas City in Kansas City, Mo. He then went on to complete a Geriatric Medicine Fellowship at University of Kansas in Kansas City, Kan.
In his spare time, Fogg enjoys the life outdoors – swimming, hiking, cycling, scuba diving, golfing and traveling.
Fogg joins Drs. Larson, Tymchuk and Tun in the Internal Medicine division of the Good Shepherd Medical Group located at 600 NW 11th Street, Suite E-37. To schedule an appointment with Guy Fogg, MD, please call 541-567-5305. For a more complete listing of services, visit the Good Shepherd website.
