Leon E. Everhart Sr., of Irrigon, died on April 30, 2014 at Kadlec Regional Medical Center, Richland, Washington at the age of 72 years.
He was born on April 27, 1942 in Bonners Ferry, Idaho to parents Victor and Leona Kaulhavy Everhart. Leon was raised and attended schools in Burns. He then joined the United States Army and served in Vietnam. Leon married Margaret Mary Costa on March 25, 1962 in Reno, Nev. They lived in Germany for three years until his honorable discharge from the service when they returned to the states. They lived in California for a short time before settling in Burns.
Leon worked as a millwright for Snow Mountain Pine lumber mill as well as a machinist for other mills. He and Margaret owned and operated the Tijuana Café and the Powerhouse Restaurant in Burns for several years. They later moved to Irrigon in the late 1990s where they have lived since. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating, and waterskiing.
He is survived by his wife: Margaret Everhart, Irrigon; sons: Leon Everhart Jr. and his wife Tammy, Maxville, KS, Chris Everhart and his wife Marsha, Caldwell, ID, and Kelly Everhart and his wife Shauna, Lewiston, ID; sister: Sharon Reason, Redmond, OR; brothers: Richard Everhart and his wife Vivian, Burns, OR, and Wes Everhart and his wife Delila, Logan, Utah; 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life gathering will be held on May 17, 2014 at 3:30 p.m. at the Family Worship Center, 330 NE 8th St., Irrigon.
