Irrigon’s Terry Hiatt Passes Away at 68

Terry D. Hiatt passed away peacefully on May 30, 2017 at his home in Irrigon at the age of 68, following a long and hard-fought battle with Crohn’s disease. He was comforted through his faith in Christ and love from family and friends.

He was born on April 6, 1949 in Pendleton to Frank S. and Corrine D. Walters Hiatt.

He was raised and attended school in Hermiston and later graduated from Blue Mountain Community College in Pendleton. He lived in Hermiston, the Los Angeles area and Portland before returning in 1983 to live in Irrigon.

He enjoyed working. He worked for the Portland Job Corps Manpower Center, Americold, Termicold, Gilroy Foods, Oregon Trail Homes, and Concrete Special Ties before starting his own business, Fox General Contracting. He did commercial work for Colorado Structures, Inc. throughout the Northwest and work for Umatilla Electric Cooperative and local property management. He did private work as well, many times for the elderly as charity.

He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, woodworking, fabrication, fishing, camping, motorcycle riding and being outdoors. He was an accomplished charcoal artist and primitive painter.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy; daughter, Becky Russell, Campos, Calif.; sons, Joe Hiatt, Boardman, and Tony (Jewlia Quaranta) Hiatt, Chelan, Wash.; stepsons, Kaley (Tianna) Fast, Amity, and Cameron (Chantel Forsberg) Fast, Unity; stepdaughter, Penny (Paul) Thorne, Prineville; brother, Dennis Hiatt, Cambodia; sisters, Charlotte (Mick) Lockner, Dallas, Elizabeth (Tim) Pollick, Hermiston, and Diana (Ray) Johnston; brother-in-law, Dave McKay, Woodburn; sisters-in-law, Susan Hurley, Raymond, Wash., and Karen McKay, Wilsonville; mother-in-law, Mary McKay, St. Paul; grandchildren, Madison, Lauren, Casey, Cheyanne, Dylan, Barrett, Tori, Austin, Audrey, R James and Sutton; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and great-great nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A celebration of life service was held on Thursday, June 8, 2017 at 1 p.m. at Burns Mortuary Chapel in Hermiston.

Burial followed at the Hermiston Cemetery.
