Jack A. Baker of Irrigon died on June 24, 2023 in Kennewick, Wash. at the age of 85.
He was born on June 5, 1938 in Port Angeles, Wash. to Francis and Jeannie Munden Baker.
Jack was raised in Hood River and Hermiston, graduating in the class of 1956. He then served in the United States Coast Guard from 1956 until his honorable discharge in 1958. Jack was united in marriage to Beverly Pepperling on Oct. 6, 1962 in Redmond. He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for a few years and then as a truck driver for several years. Jack and Bev then owned and operated several business, most of which were restaurants including The Pheasant in Hermiston and Bakes in Irrigon, until they retired in 2014.
Jack was a member of the Masonic lodge and the Irrigon Moose Lodge. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, four-wheeling, traveling and trips to the coast. Jack loved people and really enjoyed visiting with everyone.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Bev Baker, Irrigon; daughter, Cherie Bumpaous, Hermiston; sister, Bonnie Baker, Circle City, Ariz.; grandchildren, Jonathon, Hannah and Tamyja; and one great-granddaughter.
Jack was preceded in death by his son, Cory Baker and grandson, Tyler Baker; and his parents.
A celebration of life gathering will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at 1 p.m. at the Pheasant Blue Collar Bar and Grill, 149 E. Main St., Hermiston.
A private family burial will be at the Hermiston Cemetery.
