Jack Calhoun Passes Away at 72

John Calvin “Jack” Calhoun died on April 22, 2019 at his home in Umatilla at the age of 72.

He was born on July 20, 1946 in Port Arthur, Texas to John and Francis Hearn Calhoun.

Jack was raised and attended schools in Texas and Soquel, Calif., graduating from high school then attending San Joaquin College for a time. He was united in marriage to Kathleen “Kathy” Mock on Dec. 30, 1967 in Santa Cruz, Calif. Jack enlisted in the United States Navy and served in Vietnam. They lived in Hawaii until 1970, when they returned to Santa Cruz, Calif. for a short time before settling in Stockton, Calif., where Jack worked as an automobile mechanic. They lived in Stockton, Calif. until September 2011, when they moved to Umatilla.

He was a member of the VFW and taught hunter education for several years. Jack enjoyed hunting, fishing and rock hunting.

He is survived by his sons, Jason Calhoun, Modesto, Calif. and John Russell Calhoun, Umatilla; five grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

Jack was preceded in death by his wife and his parents.

A private family celebration of life will be held.
