Jacqueline M. “Jackie” Smith passed away peacefully at her home in Hermiston on July 20, 2023 at the age of 57.
Jackie was born to Howard and Charlotte Kerr in John Day on Dec. 22, 1965.
She was raised in Pendleton and graduated from Pendleton High School in 1984. Jackie married Douglas T. Smith on Aug. 3, 1985 in Pendleton. They moved to Hermiston in 1988. After becoming a mother, Jackie stayed home to raise her family and ran a home daycare for 16 years. When her children were grown, Jackie worked at Comfort Inn and Suites, where she quickly became the manager. After about 10 years at the hotel, Jackie retired to spend her days with her husband and family.
Jackie volunteered as an assistant scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts of America. She was also a Girl Scout troop leader. Jackie’s hobbies included camping, sewing, crafting, finding bargains at garage sales, and trips to the beach. She loved spending time with her family and watching her grandchildren grow.
She is survived by her husband, Douglas Smith, Hermiston; son, Joshua (Ashley) Smith, Hermiston; daughter, Amanda (Jordan) Eggers, La Grande; two granddaughters; and two grandsons.
Jackie was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Nancy Faletti.
