Adelaida “Adela” Nunez Estrada McDonough of Irrigon died on Feb. 6, 2021 in Portland at Legacy Emmanuel Hospital at the age of 77.
She was born on March 24, 1943 in Jalisco, Guadalajara, Mexico to Felipe and Mary Estrada.
She was the second oldest of 11 children. She migrated with her family to the United States around 1951 and became a U.S. Citizen in 2011. In the early years, she moved with her family to Indiana, Michigan, Texas and Arizona as they followed the agriculture jobs. The family moved to Nyssa in 1959. She met Patrick (Tiny) McDonough, and they were later married on May 6, 1966. They lived in the Ontario area until 1974 when they moved to Irrigon, where they settled and raised their five children, Monica, Veronica, Patrick, John and Paul. She was able to stay at home until her youngest entered school full time.
She worked at Miller Produce and Oregon Potato before beginning work for the Oregon Department of Agriculture, where she worked until she retired in 2016.
She was a member of Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church in Hermiston. She was very passionate about anything related to plants and flowers. She had the ultimate “green thumb” and could talk for hours about them. She will be remembered as a sassy lady that did things her own way in her own time. She will be greatly missed by all of her friends and family.
