James R. Becker passed away on Aug. 2, 2018 in Walla Walla, Wash. at the age of 77.
He was born on March 8, 1941 in Detroit, Mich. to James H. and Alice Davis Becker.
James grew up and attended his schooling in Wayne County, Mich. After high school, he moved to Southern California where he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and honorably served our country. After his discharge, he stayed in Southern California working as a journeyman electrician for 18 years as a member of the IBEW Local #11. In 1980 he began his work as a pastor, beginning in Southern California, and later he served churches in Washington and Oregon. In 1995, he moved to Hermiston, where he was the pastor of the Country Church until February 2018.
James married Janice Carter in California on Feb. 4, 1960.
He was an avid bowler and loved playing video games. He loved life and had a quick wit and a great sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Janice; daughters, Wendy Becker of Hermiston, Sharon Lipscomb of Anaheim, Calif. and Bonnie Baker Cook of Chattanooga, Tenn.; sons, James Becker and Terry Becker of Wenatchee, Wash. and Aaron Becker of Hesperia, Calif; brother, Richard Becker; sister, Judy Vanderwork; 15 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; and his church family at the Country Church in Hermiston.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Alice and a brother, Eddie.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 17, 2018 at the Country Church, 32742 Diagonal Road, Hermiston.
Burial will follow in the Hermiston Cemetery.
