James Michael Rogers Sr. died with his son at his side on Friday, July 5, 2013 at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Hermiston at the age of 87.
He was born March 24, 1926 at Pendleton to Glen Edward and Anna (Kopp) Rogers. He was raised in Pendleton and graduated from Pendleton High School in 1944. He farmed in both Pendleton and Hermiston. On December 26, 1970 he married Grace Lorraine Thurston in Pasco, Wash. He also owned and operated the Cozy Corner Tavern in Hermiston for 10 years, worked at Marlette Homes and was a real estate agent. Jim was a member of the Catholic Church and was a member of the Elks Lodges in Pendleton (Past Exalted Ruler) and in Hermiston. He was an avid outdoors man, enjoying hunting and fishing.
He is survived by son, William “Bill” Rogers of Portland; daughter, Cheryl Ann Grafton of Tacoma, Wash.; one grandson; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace in 2010; son, James M. Rogers Jr.; and three brothers, Francis, Ralph, and Bill Rogers.
Memorial services were held on Thursday, July 11, at Burns Mortuary Chapel in Hermiston. Private burial of cremains will be at Olney Cemetery in Pendleton.
