Jane Akers Passes Away at 75

Jane Elizabeth Akers of Boardman passed away in her home on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2018 at the age of 75.

She was born Jan. 10, 1943 in Lufkin, Texas the daughter of John and Alverna (Allen) Grantham.

Jane grew up in Corvallis where she attended school through her junior year. She then moved to Portland where she graduated from Wilson High School in the early 1960s. She lived in the Portland area for several years until moving to Boardman in 1978. She worked as a cook for Riverside High School and Sam Boardman Elementary School for twenty three years. She also worked many other part time jobs in the area.

Jane was a member of the Boardman First Baptist Church and she was the co-founder of the Thanksgiving Celebration Dinner in Boardman. Jane was also a charter member of Boardman Fire Corps. She was easy to get to know any made many lasting friendships. For many years Jane delivered The Oregonian newspaper. A route that should have taken 45 minutes often took hours as she stopped and greeted her many friends along the way. She loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren.

Jane married Ivan R. Akers on March 9, 1978. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan and both of her parents.

She is survived by her daughter, Suzanne (David) Gray; son, Glen (Annie) Whitson; brother, Al (Bev) Grantham; sister, Grace Grantham; grandchildren, Shawn Akers, Nick and Zach Whitson and Josh and Ari’el Gray. Along with these, numerous people who called her sister, mom, grammy and closest friend are recognized. Jane held each in her heart. The family would like to acknowledge with deepest gratitude those who surrounded Jane with love around the clock during her final days.

Services will be announced at a later time.
