Janet Spomer

Janet Sue (Fraser) Spomer of Hermiston passed away on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2017, surrounded by her family, after suffering a catastrophic stroke.

Janet was born in Napa, Calif., on Aug. 24, 1945 to Edward Francis and Wilma Rose (Fell) Fraser. She was united in marriage to John Spomer on June 23, 1968. Both Janet and John attended the University of Kansas, where she received her Bachelor’s Degree. She taught full-time in both the Portland and Hermiston, Oregon school districts until the birth of their daughter, Abigail Christine, in 1982.

Janet was very active in her church and enjoyed singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, attending women’s bible study, and quilting. She was a member of the Hermiston, Oregon Chapter CV of P.E.O. where she had served as president and secretary over the years. John and Janet were both active in the Hermiston community; Janet loved her home and the close friendships she shared with many people.

Always smiling, Janet brought love and laughter to every occasion; she was a truly sweet, loving, and genuine person. Her love for her family and her dogs was infinite and she treasured her time with them; camping, traveling, reading, music, art, and animals were a few of the things that made Janet happy. She found joy in decorating for each season and brought a special warmth to the holidays. If you knew her, you were blessed and she will be greatly missed.

Janet is survived by her husband, John; daughter, Abbie (Josh); sister, Judy (George); numerous nieces, nephew, and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church at two o’clock on Friday, Oct. 20, 2017. The church is located at 485 W. Locust Ave, Hermiston, Oregon.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Janet’s name to the Hermiston, Oregon Chapter CV of  P.E.O or the Humane Society of Eastern Oregon.
