Jeanie Bloodsworth

Barbara Jean “Jeanie” Bloodsworth of Hermiston died on Nov. 29, 2022 at Good Shepherd Hospital in Hermiston at the age of 86.

She was born on Jan. 30, 1936 in Rainier to Jess and Mabel Williams.

Her early years were in Rainier until the family moved in 1946 to Cooney Lane, Hermiston. She attended Umatilla schools and graduated from Umatilla High School in 1954. Jeanie married Charles A. (Bill) Bloodsworth on Aug. 17, 1958 in Hermiston. They had one son, William Charles (Billy) Bloodsworth, born on July 11, 1960 in Hermiston.

Jeanie was well known in the community. She began working at Hermiston Main Street businesses, City Finance, Montgomery Ward and McCabe’s Restaurant. She later began working at Good Shepherd Hospital in 1967 as a billing clerk in the facility located on Orchard Avenue. She ended her career with the hospital, working in provider services for Cascade East Health Plans, a subsidiary of the hospital. She retired after 36 years and nine months to the day (her words!) with Good Shepherd. She later worked for Dr. Joseph Gifford at Gifford Medical from January 2004 to September 2012.

Jeanie loved crocheting, making many, many sweaters, fleece jackets and coats. She loved her margarita girls and enjoyed the Cowboy Channel day in and day out. Jeanie bowled for many years for the team being sponsored by Tum-A-Lum Lumber, and then Dennis Culp Machine Shop. She participated in about 25 national tournaments. When she would get a strike, it was “Powder River.” Jeanie’s name is on the board at Hermiston Lanes for her high game of 287.

She was an avid collector of all things John Deere and Trail Blazers. She attended many of their basketball games with her long-time friend, Marge Walchli. She enjoyed going to the Pendleton Round-up every day and to the Farm City Rodeo. Jeanie worked the ticket booth at the Farm City Rodeo for many years, helped at Mario’s Basque Barbecue, and had her favorite slots at Wildhorse.

Jeanie is survived by sisters, Betty Kline, Redmond and Joyce Follis, Pendleton; brother, Ron Williams, Umatilla; and several nieces and nephews.

Jeanie was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Billy Bloodsworth; husband, Bill Bloodsworth; brother, Darrel Williams; and sister, Rosalie Trembath.

Services were held on Dec. 10, 2022.

Contributions in Jeanie’s memory may be made to the Umatilla Alumni Association.
