Jeannette Elaine Fischer of Hermiston, longtime St. Helens resident, died on April 13, 2017 in Hermiston at the age of 86.

She was born on Jan. 24, 1931 in Marinette, Wis. to Floyd and Aline DuHaime Gilbert.

She was raised in Wisconsin until the age of 13, when her family moved to St. Helens. She was united in marriage to Robert W. Fischer on June 12, 1948 in St. Helens. They moved to Eugene for a couple of years before returning to St. Helens. They had six children before he passed away in 1963. Jeannette moved to the Umatilla area in 1979 and later worked at JR Simplot for 10 years, retiring in 1993. She returned to St. Helens shortly after that, where she had lived since. She was a member of the Catholic church and the St. Helens Moose Lodge for many years. She enjoyed crocheting, flowers and cherished time with her family.

She is survived by her children: Randy Fischer and wife Avon, Silverton, Jim Fischer and wife Carole, St. Helens, Taffy Bond and husband Dan, Port Angeles, Wash., Steven Fischer and wife Vonnie, Oregon City, Larry Fischer and wife Terri, Gresham, and Chris Fischer and wife Danica, Hermiston; sisters, Gail Renner, Sea View, Wash., and Verna Shell, St. Helens; 12 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and siblings, Bill, Dick, Roger, June and Doris.

A Mass of Christian Burial is pending at St. Frederic Catholic Church, 175 S. 13th St., St. Helens.

Private burial will be held at Willamette National Cemetery, Portland.
