Jerry Horn

Jerrold E. “Jerry” Horn of Hermiston died on July 5, 2023 in Hermiston at the age of 86.

He was born on Nov. 20, 1936 in Pendleton to Marvin Earl and Marguarite Horn.

Jerry graduated from Pendleton High School in the class of 1966. He lived his entire life in Umatilla County, where he worked as a builder. Jerry married Linda Anderson and they had two children, Randy and Kris, before later divorcing. He worked for various companies before starting Horn Construction. He built new homes as well as remodeling homes and commercial buildings. Jerry got great joy and satisfaction from partnering with Pendleton High School to have the carpentry class work with him building new homes, where they learned the skills of the trade.

Jerry married Ruth Mahaffey on Feb. 22, 1985 and gained four stepchildren, Tony, Joe and Timothy Mahaffey and Rosemarie O’Rourke. He retired after 55 years and they moved to Hermiston, where they have lived since. Jerry had a lifelong passion for the mountains, camping, hunting, fishing and picking mushrooms. After retiring, he loved talking to people and sharing with them the promise of salvation, where he will no longer have diabetes that he had his entire life.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth; children, Randy and Kris; grandchildren, Kevin and Brook Kopp; and step children, Tony, Joe, Timothy and Rosemarie.

A service will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at 2 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses, 2260 N.E. Fourth St., Hermiston.
