Jerry Lee Schuening died on May 3, 2018 at his home in Stanfield at the age of 58.
He was born on Sept. 10, 1959 in Pendleton to Fred and Mary Greatorex Schuening.
Jerry was raised and attended schools in Pilot Rock and Stanfield, graduating from Stanfield High School in the class of 1978. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1978 until his honorable discharge in 1982. Jerry was united in marriage to Debra “Debbie” Sherman on Oct. 19, 1980 in Hermiston. He worked for Jack Zabransky on his farm before attending Blue Mountain Community College. Jerry graduated with a degree in automobile mechanics and worked for Rohrman Ford/Tom Denchel Ford in Hermiston for 36 years.
He enjoyed race cars and was Gerard Racing’s crew chief for several years. He also enjoyed tinkering around his hobby farm, spending time with his family, his cats and dogs, and riding his motorcycle in the annual Christmas Toy Run.
He is survived by his wife, Debbie Schuening, Stanfield; son, Joshua Schuening, Toronto, Ontario, Canada; brothers, Ron (Nelda) Schuening, Palestine, Texas, Randy (Marion) Schuening, Pilot Rock, and Kris (Julie) Schuening, Umatilla; sister, Jana (Dan) Kenshol, Hermiston; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John Schuening.
A celebration of life service with military honors will be held on Friday, May 11, 2018 at 3 p.m. at the Hermiston Seventh Day Adventist Church, 855 W. Highland Ave.
