Jerry Schutt Passes Away at 76

Jerome L. “Jerry” Schutt died on Jan. 27, 2023 at his home in Hermiston at the age of 76.

He was born on Oct. 3, 1946 in Ovid, Colo. to Clyde and Alvina Schutt.

Jerry was raised and attended school in Colorado. He joined the United States Navy and served two tours in Vietnam before his honorable discharge in 1967. Jerry was united in marriage to JoAnn Goede on April 22, 1972 in Westminster, Colo. They lived in Colorado, Utah and New Mexico before settling in Hermiston in 1991, where they have lived since.

Jerry worked as the chief power plant operator at McNary Dam until he retired in 2004. He was a member of Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church, Hermiston. Jerry enjoyed cooking, gardening, traveling, woodworking, and most of all spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, JoAnn Schutt, Hermiston; daughters, Tammy Smith (Randy), Hermiston and Brenda Cook (Corey), Richland, Wash.; brothers, Terry Schutt (Carmen), Huntington Beach, Calif., Ron Schutt (Karen), Cheyenne, Wyo., Dennis and Boone Schutt (Sue), Broomfield, Colo.; grandchildren, Roarke, Nolynd, Taylee and Pailyn; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Darrel Schutt (Betty); and nephew, Jeff Schutt.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be on Friday, Feb. 10, 2023 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church, Hermiston.

Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m.

Burial will be on Friday, Feb. 10, 2023 at 2 p.m. at the Hermiston Cemetery.
