Jesus “Jess” Erevia of Hermiston passed away at his home surrounded by family on May 16, 2023 at the age of 71.

He was born on Feb. 9, 1952 in Brownsville, Texas to Juan and Julia Suarez Erevia.

Jess and his family were migrant seasonal farmworkers but moved to Oregon permanently when Jess was 9, settling in Culver, where he attended school. He moved to the Hermiston area in the early 1970s, where he eventually settled. Jess married Debra Snyder in Hermiston on June 25, 2011. They both attended New Hope Community Church.

Jess was a hardworking family man who loved to be busy. He worked for Oregon Potato Company for over 15 years but he found his passion in driving truck, spending most of his time behind the wheel of a semi. He loved working and took pride in being able to provide for his family. When he wasn’t working, you would generally find him behind his grill or in the garage. He had a passion for barbequing, throwing together random recipes, listening to music, singing a few oldies on the karaoke machine, camping, fishing, painting and working in his back yard, but he especially enjoyed being with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Debra; six children, Jessica (Dominic) Higheagle, Angel (Miguel) Moreno, Laloni (Wayne) Aytch, Jesus Erevia Jr., Sosena (Mariano) Hernandez and Destiny (Joaquin) Venegas; 19 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; brothers, Frank Erevia, Lupe Erevia and Rick Suarez; sisters, Janie Rodriguez, Mary Castro, Ofelia Erevia and Anita Erevia; and many extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Albert, Tony and Dionicio; sisters, Josie and Lolita; and his grandson, Malique.

The viewing will take place on Sunday, May 21, 2023 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Burns Mortuary.

A funeral service will be held the following day at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 22, 2023 at New Hope Community Church, 1350 S. Highway 395, Hermiston.

Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery in Stanfield.

Family and friends are asked to reconvene at New Hope for lunch following the burial.
