Joanne Board Passes Away at 82

Joanne E. Board of Hermiston died on June 2, 2024 in Richland, Wash. at the age of 82.

She was born on Sept. 27, 1941 in Tanzania, East Africa to Richard and Florence Dilworth.

Joanne was raised and attended schools in Tanzania before her family moved to Hemet, Calif. when she was a junior in high school. She graduated from Hemet High School. Joanne was attending Biola College in Los Angeles and working in the infirmary when she met Tom Board, who was also attending the college. They were married on Aug. 26, 1967 in San Jacinto, Calif. In 1968 they moved to Hermiston, where they have lived since.

Joanne worked at Good Shepherd Hospital in Hermiston and later at St. Mary Hospital in Walla Walla, Wash. until she retired. She had been a member of West Park Baptist Church where she was involved in the youth ministry and was a founding member of New Hope Community Church, Hermiston. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, photography and crafts. She was a very supportive mother of her children and their activities. Joanne was very humble and gentle with a giving spirit.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Tom Board, Hermiston; daughter, Kimberly Mansfield, Hermiston; son, Jeff Board, Richland, Wash.; sister, Phyllis Fisher, Des Moines, Iowa; grandchildren, Becky and Justin; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Ezekiel; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Joanne was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Norman Dilworth; and a sister, Diane Bartman.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 10, 2024 at 11 a.m. at New Hope Community Church, 1350 S. Highway 395, Hermiston.

Burial will follow at the Hermiston Cemetery.
