Joe Franklin Shilhanek of Stanfield passed away in Stanfield on Aug. 14, 2024 at the age of 72.
He was born on Aug. 24, 1951 to Reuben and Ethel Vietmeier Shilhanek.
Joe grew up and attended schools in Amity, graduating from Amity High School. He moved to Stanfield in the late 1960s and began a hog farming business with his father.
Joe worked for Simplot in Hermiston for over 25 years. He then worked for Lamb Weston of Hermiston as a freezer attendant for many more years, retiring on March 2, 2024.
Joe enjoyed playing pool, camping, fishing and watching old western movies.
Joe married Marilyn Corliss in Hermiston on April 12, 1980.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Marilyn; daughter, Melissa Shilhanek; son, Cody Shilhanek; one granddaughter; sister, Jeri; brothers, Roger and Neil; and many extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings.
A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 8, 2024 at Bard Park in Stanfield.
A private interment will be in Pleasant View Cemetery in Stanfield.
The family suggests memorial contributions in Joe’s memory be made to the Epilepsy Foundation of Oregon.
