John Clayton Neider of Hermiston passed away in Hermiston surrounded by his family on May 19, 2023 at the age of 72.
He was born on Nov. 11, 1950 in Boise, Idaho to Dale and Leotta Wilson Neider.
John moved with his family to Bend in 1966, graduating from Bend High School in the class of 1968. He then served in the U.S. Army as a food service specialist for seven years, being stationed in Korea, Germany and Arizona during those years.
After his honorable discharge, John returned to Bend and worked for Jeld-Wen Windows and Doors for many years. He traveled to the Hermiston area, staying for short periods of time for many years. He made the Irrigon and Hermiston areas his home permanently in 2006. He worked for Lamb Weston in Boardman as a Hyster operator for 11 years, retiring in 2017.
John enjoyed many outdoor activities such as fishing, hunting and camping. He also enjoyed reading and cooking and was well known by family and friends for his excellent baking skills. He was very involved in his grandkids’ activities and was most happy at home with his family.
He is survived by his children, Angel Neider, Kala (Levi) Branson and John Thomas “JT” Neider; three grandchildren, Chance, Jayden and Carson; mother, Leotta Neider; sisters, Shirley Strong, Sandra (Gary) Powell, Sally Lloyd and Sharon (Charles) Cole; brothers, Jim (Jill) Neider, Jerry (Sandy) Neider and Steve Neider; and many extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his father, Dale; sisters, Sheila and Shelly; and brothers, Joe and Jay.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at the Hermiston Cemetery.
