D. Keith Goin died on Oct. 14, 2022 at his home in Hermiston at the age of 90.
He was born on Jan. 20, 1932 in Boise, Idaho to Edward James Goin and Floretta Casner Goin.
Keith graduated from Union High School in Union in the class of 1950. He served in the United States Air Force as a radio operator during the Korean War until his honorable discharge. Keith married Carol Claycomb on Jan. 5, 1955 in La Grande.
He graduated from Portland State University with a bachelor’s degree in education. Keith taught in Wallowa and Joseph and worked for the United States Forest Service fighting fires during the summers. They moved to Arizona, where he taught for a short time before returning to Oregon, teaching at Umatilla High School. He taught English, writing and speech, as well as serving as the drama director. Keith earned his master’s degree from Eastern Oregon College and taught college courses during his career. He was past exalted ruler of the Hermiston Elks Lodge #1845, past VFW Post #4750 commander, and he was a member of the Hermiston Eagles Lodge #2909. He enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing, hunting and playing cards.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Carol Goin, Hermiston; daughter, Sheryl Lynn Goin, Hermiston; son, Robert Keith Goin, Hermiston; grandson, Michael Goin, Bend; great granddaughter, Emelyn Goin; and a cousin, Don Goin, Roseburg.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra “Sandy” Goin Towers, and his parents.
A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, Oct. 21, 2022 at 3 p.m. at Burns Mortuary Chapel, Hermiston.
