Kenneth E. “Kenny” Phipps died on Feb. 5, 2024 at his home in Irrigon at the age of 73.
He was born on Dec. 12, 1950 in Des Moines, Iowa to Everett LeRoy Phipps and Neoma Hazel McKinney Phipps.
Kenny was raised in West Linn and graduated in West Linn. He then attended George Fox University before enlisting in the United States Army. He served until his honorable discharge and returned home and started trucking. He moved to Umatilla in the early 1980s and met Maria Escobedo and they had a son, Sonny. They moved to Irrigon in 1990, where he had lived since. He retired in 2000.
Kenny enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding his Harley, going to the coast, NASCAR, watching the Seattle Seahawks and supporting his son’s involvement in sports.
He is survived by his sons, Sonny Phipps, Irrigon and Gabriel Escobedo, Hermiston; daughter, Andrea Escobedo, Hermiston; grandchildren, Brock, Brayden, Brooklyn, Cody and Emily; and numerous nieces and nephews including his namesake, Kensi, and AJ, as well as Olivia.
Kenny was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Arnie Phipps.
A graveside funeral service with military honors will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 12 noon at the Hermiston Cemetery.
