The Hermiston Parks and Recreation Department is partnering with the city of Umatilla and Rogers Toyota to present the Kids’ Fishing Derby on Saturday, May 22.
The derby takes place at Fountain Pond in the McNary nature area and is open to kids 14 and under. It goes from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and is free to attend; registration is not required.
All children must be accompanied by an adult. They should bring their own fishing pole and gear (some loaner poles may be available). Kids ages 12 to 14 will be required to have a fishing license. The city of Umatilla will be offering and paying for licenses for kids without them the morning of the event. A parent must be present, and you must be in line by 9:30 a.m. to receive a license.
