The honors keep coming in for the 2014 Hermiston Bulldogs football team as senior quarterback Chase Knutz was voted the 5A offensive player of the year.
The honor comes on the heels of the Bulldogs capturing the 5A state title in November with a 34-12 win over previously unbeaten Silverton. In the title game, Knutz threw for 248 yards and three touchdowns.
On the year, Knutz threw for 31 touchdowns and 2,797 passing yards and completed better than 56 percent of his passes.
Knutz’ coach, Mark Hodges, was named the 5A coach of the year. The Bulldogs finished the season with a 12-1 record, capturing the school’s first-ever state title in football.
Knutz and Hodges weren’t the only Bulldogs honored for their performance this past season. Joining Knutz on the Oregonian’s 5A offensive all-state first team is wide receiver Carson Morter, tight end Cole Smith, center MJ Arteaga, lineman Dylan Caldwell, lineman Michael Potts, and kicker Luis Medina.
Named to the second team were running back Sam Colbray, wide receiver Ethan Snow and lineman Luis Santoya. Running back Cory Adams was named honorable mention.
