Lawrence I. Hendry of Hermiston died on Feb. 27, 2019 in Hermiston at the age of 89.
He was born on Aug. 9, 1929 in Villisca, Iowa to Russell and Clara Selby Hendry.
Lawrence was raised in Iowa. He joined the United States Army and served as a truck driver during World War II until his honorable discharge. Lawrence was united in marriage to Norma “Jean” Heatherington on Sept. 3, 1957 in Stevenson, Wash. He worked for Union Pacific Railroad as a machine operator with the track maintenance department until retiring in 1992. He loved hunting, fishing, camping, four-wheeling, tinkering and traveling. Lawrence was a “jack of all trades” and a great family storyteller.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Hendry, Hermiston; daughters, Lorie Hendry-Vincent, Hermiston and Suse Holt, Umatilla; sons, Jess McNeese and Raymond McNeese; brothers, Alfred and Donald; sisters, Dorothy and Betty Jo; 10 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents and a son, David Hendry.
A private family gathering will be held.
