Lynda A. Dunlap passed away at Regency Nursing Home in Hermiston on Aug. 29, 2026.
Lynda was born on Jan. 22, 1938 in a ranch house up Hinton Creek in Heppner to Richard (Dick) Borman and Lorna Patton Borman.
She went to school all 12 grades in Heppner and graduated from Heppner High School in 1956. She met and married Richard S. Dunlap that same year. Two children were born of this marriage, a son, Dyrk and a daughter, Lori. He was assigned to various Air Force bases throughout their marriage. They were at Condon, Beaverlodge, Alberta, Canada, Corvallis and Fort Lee, Va. They divorced in 1964, and Lynda began working for the USDA Forest Service in Hepper, then transferred to Baker City and then Pendleton. She made a 30-year career working for the U.S. Forest Service. After retiring, she worked for the food service for the Pendleton School District in the kitchen of Sunridge Middle School for eight years. She retired from this job to be a caregiver to her mother, Lorna.
While in school, Lynda played a clarinet in the school band. She took piano lessons for several years and loved to play. Throughout her life, Lynda liked to dance, bowl, knit, crochet, sew, play cards and garden. She did some oil painting and other crafts. She especially liked to bake and provided goodies wherever she could. She liked to spend time with her grandkids attending their sports activities and other interests. Lynda was a lover of animals, especially cats. She worked with PAWS to catch homeless cats, have them spayed and neutered and find homes for them or returned to the outside. Lynda was an active member of the Pendleton Church of God from the time she committed her life to Jesus. Church was very important to her, being of strong faith and believing in salvation through Jesus Christ and the promise of the resurrection and eternal life in heaven.
Lynda is survived by her son, Dyrk Dunlap and daughter-in-law, Belinda of Hermiston; daughter, Lori Ebright and son-in-law, Dary of Hammond; grandsons, Jacoby, Cayben and Zachary; foster granddaughter, Krystal Pike; four great-grandsons; and four great-granddaughters.
Lynda was preceded in death by her father, Richard and mother, Lorna and a previous baby sister.
“But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary. They shall walk and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:31 NKJV).
In accordance with her wishes, a graveside service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2026 at 1 p.m. at Heppner Masonic Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to join in a quiet moment of remembrance.
