What began as a simple hobby in high school has now turned into a full-time career for Defining Details owner Shannon Snyder – with a new location to boot.

Portrait and stationery store Defining Details, 296 E. Main St., celebrated its grand opening on Wednesday evening during the Hermiston Chamber of Commerce’s latest Alive After 5 event. A crowd of more than 40 Hermiston residents were in attendance.

“Shannon does a beautiful job with her photography, and she’s done something really special with this business,” said Chamber President Debbie Pedro during the grand opening. “I know firsthand – she photographed my daughter’s wedding.”

Snyder said that while her business began as an event design company 10 years ago, her high school hobby of photography slowly worked its way into the picture and has culminated in opening her own location on Main Street.

“It was time to move the business out of my home and into my own studio,” Snyder said. “When this location opened up, I begged the owners to have it. I love this location on Main Street because I believe in investing in our hometown, and Main Street could use a pick-me-up with a business like this.”

Through Defining Details, customers can order photography jobs for family portraits, senior pictures, weddings, and more. Invitations can also be purchased in the store.

The store features items such as portraits, scrapbooking material, gift wrap, greeting cards, arts and crafts material, as well as an in-store studio for baby portraits. The store is open 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Monday through Friday.
