Larry Usher has been recommended by the Hermiston School District superintendent to be the next principal at Sandstone Middle School.
Superintendent of Schools Dr. Fred Maiocco announced today that he will recommend Usher as the middle school’s principal to the Board of Education at its June 9 meeting.
If approved,Usher will replace departing principal Neely Kirwan, who accepted a position in another school district. Usher’s appointment follows a selection process involving highly-competitive candidates from across the Pacific Northwest.
Usher was hired into Hermiston School District in 2002 as a high school social studies teacher. In 2010 Usher assumed the dean of students position at Sandstone, where he served for three and a half years. In July 2013, he was promoted to assistant principal.
“I am delighted and humbled by this promotion, and I look forward to continue working with our students, their families, and the outstanding Sandstone staff,” said Usher. “Ms. Kirwan’s departure leaves big shoes for me to fill, but I look forward to the opportunity and challenge. Sandstone has incredible students and staff, which will help make this transition as seamless as possible.”
