Man Dies from Injuries Suffered in Altercation on Friday Morning

A Hermiston man died Friday morning following an altercation with another man.

The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating a death following an altercation reported between two males outside in the vicinity of N. Highway 395 and Punkin Center Road in Hermiston.

Today at approximately 6:30 a.m. the UCSO Regional Dispatch Center received reports of a physical altercation involving two males, both sustaining severe injuries.

Law enforcement and medical units promptly responded to the scene. Both individuals involved in the altercation were transported to the hospital for medical treatment. One of the males, identified as a 51-year-old resident of Hermiston, died from his injuries. The other male, 27, sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical attention.

The Oregon State Police Crime Scene Unit and Umatilla County Search and Rescue were requested and responded to the scene for processing.

The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with the Umatilla County District Attorney’s Office and other local law enforcement agencies, continues its investigation into this incident.

Preliminary assessments suggest that this is an isolated incident, and there is no threat to the public.

The sheriff’s office said further updates will be provided as the investigation continues.
