Margaret R. Smith Thorpe died on March 22, 2018 at her home in Hermiston at the age of 101.
She was born on July 10, 1916 in Gloyd, Wash. to Paul and Elise “Lizzie” Depner Smith.
Margaret was united in marriage to Nathan Thorpe on Oct. 12, 1935 in Boardman. She was an active member of the grange for over 85 years and active in the Hermiston Senior Center for many years. Margaret enjoyed sewing, quilting, painting, gardening and family get-togethers.
She is survived by her son, Larry Thorpe (Carol), Hermiston; daughters, Sandra Boothman (Ed), Oliver, British Columbia and Teresa Long (Tom), Hermiston; daughters-in-law, Bobbie Thorpe, Dallas, Ga. and Teresa Thorpe, St. Helens; 16 grandchildren; 51 great grandchildren; and numerous great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Nathan Thorpe; sons, Jim and Bill Thorpe; brothers, Charles, Robert and Lawrence Smith; and sister, Pauline Sullivan.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at 1 p.m. at Burns Mortuary Chapel, Hermiston.
Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery, Boardman, and then everyone is invited to the Columbia Grange in Hermiston for a time of fellowship.
