Margie Gibson Passes Away at 67

Nola Margaret “Margie” Gibson died on March 6, 2020 at her home surrounded by family in Salem at the age of 67.

She was born on May 18, 1952 in San Diego, Calif.

Margie lived in Oregon, Idaho and California, where she also attended school. She worked for the state of Oregon for 19 years in the Department of Forestry, governor’s office, and the Economic Development office. Margie later owned and operated a business consulting practice for several years. She married David “Gibby” Gibson on July 30, 2005 in Salem.

Margie loved all of her family beyond measure. She cherished spending time with her grandchildren and especially her 13 great grandchildren. Her laugh and smiles were contagious and could brighten any room. Margie enjoyed traveling, going new places, and meeting new people. She never met a stranger. Her sense of humor, love, compassion, empathy and understanding will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her husband, David “Gibby” Gibson, Salem; daughter, Rachel Pennington, Elk City, Okla.; grandchildren, Kyle Pennington, Dallas, Tiawna Mathers, Scio, Damon Mathers, Dallas and Skyler Mathers, Newport; 13 great grandchildren; brothers, Dennis Helzer, Eagle Creek and Chris Martin (Barb), Hermiston; sisters, Teresa Pivek (Roy), Prineville and Julie Thomas, Portland; sister-in-law, Sharon Caldwell, Caldwell, Idaho; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Margie was preceded in death by her parents, Broyce Helzer and Nola June Martin; and two brothers, David and Kevin Helzer. A time and date for a celebration of life service will be announced.
