Marie M. Rodriguez Jan. 16, 1919-April 18, 2013

Marie M. Rodriguez died on April 18, 2013 in Hermiston at the age of 94.

She was born on January 16, 1919 in Bend to Valley and Martha Volkman Dykstra.

She was raised in the Willamette Valley, graduating from Lebanon High School in 1937. Marie married Daniel Rodriguez on May 27, 1939 in Weiser, Idaho. They moved to Hermiston in 1950 so her husband could work on the McNary Dam. Marie owned and operated a day care center for many years. Raising generations of little people, finally retiring at the age of 80. She was a 50-plus year member of the Good Shepherd Hospital Auxiliary, Red Hatter’s, and the Elks Emblem Club. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, reading, cooking, and traveling.

She is survived by her daughter: Diane Hawkins & husband Larry, sons: Dale Rodriguez & wife Tess, and Dennis Rodriguez, all of Hermiston, OR; extended daughters: Robin Hoffman & Vickie Ellis; 10 grandchildren & 18 great grandchildren.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, son: Darrell S. “Butch” Rodriguez, sister: Marjorie Stevens, and 2 brothers: Sonny Dykstra and Ted Dykstra Howell.

A graveside funeral service was held on Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at the Hermiston Cemetery.
