Marvin Beachler of Umatilla Passes Away at 64

Marvin Ray Beachler, beloved husband of Helane, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 11, 2015 in Umatilla following a long illness.

He was born on July 21, 1950 to Raymond and Verda Beachler in Weston, W.Va.

He was the second of six children. He completed high school in East Cleveland and then entered the Navy in 1970. While serving on board the USS Coral Sea, he met his future wife, Helane Awtrey, at the San Francisco USO. They were married on May 4, 1974 in Novato, Calif., and were blessed with 41 years together.

Marv worked as a weatherman, proudly serving his country for 20 years. Retiring from the Navy in 1990 at Whidbey Island Naval Air Station in Washington. Upon his retirement from the Navy, he remained in Washington, working as a security guard while attending college. In 1999, he graduated from Western Washington University in Bellingham, Wash., having earned a bachelor of science degree in environmental science. In 2001, he moved to Umatilla where he worked at the Umatilla Chemical Depot as an air monitor until he became too ill. Marv loved the Lord and studying God’s Word. He loved his family and his friends, and being able to help others gave him great joy. He had a kind heart and a quirky sense of humor and enjoyed the simple things in life. Marv was an avid reader, loved country music and playing with his dogs.

Marvin you are loved and will be so deeply missed. May you be at peace with, and enjoy being in the presence of the Lord.

A Celebration of Marv’s life will be held at the Paterson Community Church in Paterson, Wash.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the USO or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
