Mary Lou Lyon of Hermiston died on March 7, 2018 in Springfield at the age of 79.
She was born on Oct. 29, 1938 in Plainview, Texas to Angus and Ona Mae Wright McDuffee.
Her family moved to Hermiston in 1948, and Mary Lou graduated from Hermiston High School in the class of 1957. She attended Blue Mountain Community College and Eastern Oregon State College. Mary Lou had worked as a waitress and bartender for several years. She then went to work for the state of Oregon Department of Children’s Services, serving as the west end Umatilla County foster home and daycare certifier for many years. Mary Lou then worked behind the front desk at the Oxford Suites for several years.
She enjoyed dancing, camping, cross stitch, latch work and crossword puzzles, and cherished spending time with family. Mary Lou had attended the Gospel Home Church and the Country Church in Hermiston.
She is survived by her son, Kevin Lyon, Springfield; daughter, Kari Lyon, California; seven grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Mac, Everett “Duffy”, Red and Buddy, who passed at the age of 3.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the Hermiston Cemetery.
