OSU Master Gardeners to Be on Hand at Art Festival
A home garden has the perfect combination of art and science according to Mary Corp, Oregon State University Master Gardner Program Coordinator – especially when everything is going beautifully.
Corp should know as she is both an artist and a garden educator. Corp announced that the OSU Master Gardener Program will participate in the Eastern Oregon Arts Festival for the first time on May 9 in Hermiston.
• Want to know the ins and outs of Hydroponic Gardening? Master Gardener Richard Bertram will be doing a presentation on the demonstration stage.
• Want to try gardening, but don’t have a garden space? Master Gardener Jim Willis will be doing a presentation on Container Gardening, demonstrating how to build a Global Bucket garden out of recycled 5 gallon buckets.
• Want to know what that insect is flying around your garden, lawn or fruit trees? What to know the GOOD bugs from the BAD – then come see the Insect Display – and learn more about these creatures from Silvia Rondon, OSU Entomologist.
• Looking from the garden plants – this is the right weekend to put out those tender annuals. There will also be wide varieties of plants for sale. Funds raised will be used to offer future gardening classes, clinics, and workshops by the local Umatilla County OSU Master Gardener Association.
Festival goers will be treated to demonstrations in insect identification, how to grow a garden in small spaces and even a sampler of hydroponic gardening for the home owner. Come by the OSU “Ask a Master Gardener” booth and get an answer to your latest questions, and then grab a few plants from the Master Gardener Plant Sale on Saturday, May 9.
The Festival starts at 10 a.m. and wraps up at 4 p.m. Master Gardeners will be available to answer your gardening and landscaping questions at day, and their demos will be presented at the Demo Stage – a new addition to the Arts Festival this year.
